- Search the Colleton Public Index for filed charges and the later disposition. Confirm municipal coverage with the town court.
- Use SLED CATCH for a paid, name-based South Carolina history supported by fingerprint submissions. It is not an incident report or warrant search.
- Submit a focused public-record request when the agency's direct channels do not supply an older or releasable record.
State prison and supervision require separate searches. SCDC covers currently sentenced state prisoners, not the Colleton County jail. SCDPPPS covers probation and parole status. Send the sheriff's form to ccso-foia@colletoncounty.org or deliver it to 394 Mable T. Willis Boulevard. The form asks for requester contact details, a description of the information, signature, and date. CCSO posts search, retrieval, and redaction labor at $25 per hour; black-and-white letter copies at $0.25 per page; black-and-white legal copies at $0.50; color letter copies at $0.75; and color legal copies at $1. Media charges are $12 for a USB drive and $5 for a disc. Full payment is due before release, and a 25 percent deposit may be required after contact about the estimate.
Under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act, current records usually receive an availability decision within ten business days. Older-than-24-month material may take twenty business days for that decision. Active investigations, juvenile records, protected victims, confidential sources, privacy interests, and safety concerns can support withholding or redaction. CCSO states that body-worn-camera video is not a public record subject to FOIA.
Arrest Records vs Conviction Records
A Colleton County arrest entry proves that custody or an arrest event was recorded. It does not prove guilt. A conviction follows a plea or finding entered by a court, and the clerk's docket and disposition document that result. SLED history can link fingerprint-supported arrests to reported outcomes, but reporting lag and identity differences can still cause gaps.

Clearing Colleton County Arrest Records
South Carolina Code ยง17-1-40 can require destruction of qualifying arrest and booking records, associated bench warrants, photographs, and fingerprints after discharge, dismissal, or a not-guilty result, subject to exceptions and limited sealed retention. This is not automatic in every case, and SLED cannot initiate expungement without an Order for Destruction of Arrest Records.
For a qualifying General Sessions matter, contact the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor. A qualifying magistrate or municipal dismissal is handled by the court that decided it. If an expunged entry still appears in a personal CATCH report, SLED asks for a certified true copy of the order, a recent report, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. Allow four weeks after SLED receives the order, then run another self-check. The court, arresting agency, jail, and repository may each need to apply the order to records they maintain.
