A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. We do not keep a local log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Standard server records collect technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view times and time spent on visited pages

- IP address assigned to the device
- Referring website, when one is supplied

- Pages requested during the visit
Cookies and Analytics

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Colleton County Criminal History does not keep, aggregate, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to the sheriff, courts, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, and South Carolina Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a third-party record or consumer report, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and disclosure practices govern any submitted query. Review the selected provider's policy before entering information because this policy does not control that processing.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to government offices, courts, agencies, legal resources, and search services. Once a visitor leaves this domain, the destination's policy controls. Read it before providing personal data.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across sites and select ads. That tracking is managed by those providers.

Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:

Your Data Rights
South Carolina separates public-body access under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act from SLED criminal-history dissemination under S.C. Code §23-3-115. Those laws do not make this private site a public body or state repository. Subject to applicable law, a visitor may:
- Request deletion of personal data
- Ask what personal information is held
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of processing where that right applies
